Obituary for Ronald Earl "Ronnie" Weslow

LaVale, MD – Ronald Earl “Ronnie” Weslow, 83, of LaVale, MD, peacefully passed away at home with his family around him on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, after lengthy health issues. Heaven certainly gained an angel who will no longer be suffering in pain.

Born April 14, 1934, in Eckhart, MD, Mr. Weslow was the son of the late Mayford Weslow, Sr., and Orpha (Berkley) Weslow. He was also preceded in death by his brother:  Mayford “Wes” Weslow, Jr.; and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Ronnie was a proud graduate of Beall High School. It was also with great pride that he served in the United States Army mostly stationed in Germany then serving in the Reserves.  He was a mechanic who worked for his dad then later for his brother, Wes, at Weslow’s Gulf Station.  There, Ronnie could be found at the pumps servicing the citizens of Cumberland and the surrounding area by pumping gas, or under a hood of a vehicle making repairs, never taking a vacation until their closure in 1992.  The love of servicing people did not end after “the station” closed.  Ronnie continued what he was best at which was helping others.  Ronnie was a stubborn and strong willed man with a kind and compassionate heart, he loved helping family, friends, and neighbors no matter what time of day.  He always put others ahead of himself seeking nothing in return.  He was a lifetime member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club.  He enjoyed watching the Baltimore Orioles and University of Maryland basketball.  He will be sorely missed.  “Well done, good and faithful servant."

Ronnie is survived by his wife, the love of his life and of which they recently celebrated 58 years of marriage to Onalee (Pretzel) Weslow, which was also his fulltime caregiver for the last several months. He said multiple times that he could not have asked for a better wife and she did a wonderful job caring for him.  He is also survived by his four children, who he instilled a strong sense of work ethic, along with their spouses, which he treated as his own: Michael Weslow; Patricia Bittner and husband Mark; Darren Weslow and wife, Deanna; and Karen Knipple and husband, John.  Also surviving are nine grandsons, who he was extremely proud of: Timothy Weslow; Andrew Weslow; Joshua Bittner and wife, Tasha; Justin Bittner and wife, Monique; Jacob Bittner and fiancé, Lacy; Nathan Weslow; Logan Weslow; Jeremy Knipple; and Corey Knipple; three great granddaughters: Kylee, Matti, and Emily Bittner; and his niece: Carol Muscarrella and husband, Brian; as well as numerous cousins.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Sunday, April 15, 2018, from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, April 16, 2018, at 11:00 A.M., with Reverend Frankie Revell officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

The family would like to thank all the kind and compassionate doctors, as well as healthcare staff they encountered over the last several years caring for Ronnie, with a special thanks to Dr. James Moen and staff, Laura and Becky, who were always there for support.
