Obituary for David Lynn Cole, Jr.

Clearville, PA – David Lynn Cole, Jr., 38, of Clearville, PA, passed away Friday, August 3, 2018.

Born October 10, 1979, in Cumberland, MD, David was the son of Donna Huff and husband, Robert; and his biological father, David Lynn Cole, Sr., and wife, Valerie.  He was raised by his stepfather: Gregory Alan Trail.  He was preceded in death by his Aunts and Uncle: Robin Mellott; Tonya Brant; Paul “Skeeter” Donald Goetz, Jr.; and his maternal grandmother: Carol Mildred Hall; his grandparents: Bernard Cole, Sr., and wife, Dolores.

David is survived by his son: David Lynn Cole, III; Wiley Ford, WV; and his daughter Azeryal Keefer, Shade Gap, PA; and his step brothers: Shawn Trail, Huntingdon, PA; and Gregory Andrew Trail and wife, Stephanie, Clearville, PA. He is also survived by his aunts: Kathleen McDonald; Joyce Cole; Sherry Trail; his uncles: Donald Cole; Bernard Cole, Jr., Randy Mellott; Scott Brant; his cousins: Casey Carver and Amanda Haller; Anthony Rummer; Mark and Clyde Hansford; Scott Brant; and Brinna Brant; a special grandfather: William R. Trail and wife, Juanita; and a special grandmother: Rita Kline.

Sadly, David has lost his battle with drugs. He had been fighting this addiction for many years and many rehabs.  As a child and young man, he was loved by many.  He had family that loved him dearly.  Gregory Alan Trail chose to take him in as his son and raise him when he did not have to.  It is a story that is all too familiar.  He left us with two beautiful grandchildren.  He was loved by all his family and friends.  We had hoped that this time would be different; that the rehabs would have helped.  But sadly, drugs won.  The drugs whispering in his ear, telling him: “You need me because I can make you feel loved, and I can make you feel mothering, and make you feel like everything will be okay,” (was louder than we could be).  Only this time, drugs did not just take from David, they took from all who cared about him.  This drug epidemic is out of control and something must be done.  No parent, child, or loved one should have to go through the anguish of watching someone they love go down this path or be taken from our lives.  At least now you can rest in peace, David.  Your battle is over.

When David was not battling drug addiction, he was a fun loving guy who was very well liked and never met a stranger. David loved the Raystown Lake and spending time on the boat.  He especially loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
