Obituary for Margaret Evelyn (Beier) Atkinson

Cumberland, MD – Margaret Evelyn (Beier) Atkinson, 90, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Allegany Health, Nursing, and Rehabilitation Center.

Margaret was born on June 13, 1928, at home, in Westernport, MD, to the late John Louis “Pop” and Bessie “Grandma Bay” nee Fazenbaker Beier. She was also preceded in death by a premature son: Gregory McRae; an infant daughter, Baby Atkinson; a sister: Eleanor Boyle; as well as a nephew, niece, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Margaret was first married to the late George “Patrick” McRae and is survived by their children: Michelle McRae and husband, Bill Beeghly, and their sons: Christopher Patrick Beeghly (Stephanie Woolard), and their son: Jensen Patrick Beeghly, Cumberland, MD; and Sean Beeghly, Pittsburgh, PA. She is also survived by her sons: Kevin McRae, Cumberland, MD, and his daughter, Kelsey Cleary, and her son, Aiden, Shippensburg, PA; and Brook A. Atkinson (Debbie Jones), and their daughter, Erin, Cumberland, MD.  Margaret was also preceded in death by her second husband, the late Brook C. Atkinson.  She also leaves behind her special sister: Anna Kelly, Keyser, WV; her nephew, nieces, and many great nephews and great nieces.

Margaret was a 1946 graduate of Allegany High School and attended their last “70th” Reunion.  She also attended Catherman’s Business School. Some may remember Margie in her downtown working years at Lazarus, Montgomery Ward, and Cumberland Cloak and Suit. Mom had a flair for fashion, jewelry, and entertaining.  She treasured babies and family.  Margie shared a birthday with a special family friend Mark (Linda) Hoag, Rochester, NY.  She was most certainly a one-of-a-kind lady.

Margaret was past member of Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church and will be buried at Philos Cemetery beside her parents and sister. As her wishes, there will be no services.  A family memorial will be held at a later date.

Condolences may be sent to the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, or Michelle McRae, 819 Mount Royal Avenue, Cumberland, MD 21502.

Rest well dear beautiful mother. We will always love and remember you.
