Obituary for Louis Joseph Katz

Cumberland, MD – Our team is mourning the loss of one of our own and remembering him fondly. Louis Joseph Katz, 46, of Cumberland, MD, formerly of Ocean City, NJ, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 7, 2018.

Born February 21, 1971, in Camden, NJ, Lou was the son of the late Charles Katz and Josephine (Mascio) Katz-Grady. He was also preceded in death by his sister: Michelle Watkins.

Lou started his career with IBM in 2012 at our ABL location on the Service Desk as a supplemental employee supporting U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). As one of the original hires to this team, he was a pioneer of our new group and played a big role in the successful team it has grown to today.  He exemplified the IBM values of always putting the client first. When it was time to stand up the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) desk, he was one of the key employees placed on that team.  Lou quickly proved his value and therefore became the first supplemental employee that was promoted within the supplemental employee status.  Since that time, he continued to move upwards and into a regular employee role as a Critical Situation Manager on the USAID project. Just recently, Lou joined the Cyber & Biometrics Managed Security Services team to begin his career in Cyber Security as a Security Analyst for the USAID program.  A career in cyber had long been a desire of Lou’s and he approached this new phase of his career with IBM with great excitement and passion.  He quickly absorbed the duties as a Security Analyst and greatly improved the USAID security posture.

Lou lived for his children, Charlie and Samantha, and enjoyed taking them to karate classes, birthday parties, and other fun activities. Within the past few years, he was able to complete a BS Degree in Information Technology with an emphasis in Security.  Wanting to help his former co-workers, he presented a lunch and learn to the Service Desk Team about his online college experience and the certifications you could receive while attending classes.

Lou loved Superman, classic rock, video games and was obsessed with Wawa coffee. He was a valuable member of the USAID team as well as the ABL group and community.  He is remembered by his co-workers as someone always willing to help them when needed.  His presence will be missed.

Lou is survived by his children: Charles Paul Katz; and Samantha Michelle Katz; his sisters: Angela (Katz) DeRobertis and Tina Marie (Watkins) Hill; his nephews: John, Robert, and TJ; and his niece: Deanna.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Monday, February 12, 2018, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at 10:00 A.M.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to his children at the following link: https://www.gofundme.com/father-passed-away-children-in-need?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=email&utm_content=cta_button&utm_campaign=upd_n
