Obituary for Margaret "Margie" JoAnn (Dircks) Bishop

Cumberland, MD – Margaret “Margie” JoAnn (Dircks) Bishop, 83, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport, MD. 

Born December 10, 1934, in Cumberland, MD, Mrs. Bishop was the daughter of the late Paul and Madeline (Valentine) Dircks. She was also preceded in death by her husband: Franklyn J. Bishop; a daughter: Jamie Lyn Conn; a sister: Pauline M. Armentrout; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. 

Margie was a graduate of Fort Hill High School and retired from Sacred Heart Hospital where she worked in the dietary department. 

Margie is survived by her daughters: Bridget Vanderhout and husband, Bruce, Cumberland, MD; Peggy Ballowe and husband, Ray of Virginia; and Kristina Newcomer and husband, David of Pennsylvania; and her sons: Mark Hawkins; and R. Michael Hawkins, both of Texas. She also leaves behind her sisters: Barbara Buckley, Cumberland, MD; and Dorothy “Dottie” Machemer, Westminster, MD.  Margie is also survived by her grandchildren: Eric and Kirk Yutzy, Cumberland, MD; Logan Conn, Gilmore, MD; Sonya Broadway of Texas; Moriah Rush of Virginia; Jadah Ballowe of Virginia; Mark, Eric, and Celeste Hawkins; Devon, Tyler, and John Newcomer; and Ashlyn Hawkins; her best friend of many years: Shirley Hostetler; nine great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; one step great grandchild; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and several brothers-in-law; and sisters-in-law. 

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Sunday, May 6, 2018, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. 

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, May 7, 2018, at 11:00 A.M., with Reverend Wayne Turner officiating. The family will also  receive friends one hour prior to the service. 

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. 

Margie was blessed with two very special caregivers, Sandi Sauter and Cathy Olinger. The family would like to thank you both for the love and compassion you had for our mom.  Mom loved you both dearly.  Also, thank you to her grandson, Kirk, for staying with his grandma when needed.  We would also like to thank the Hospice nurses who were wonderful to her for the last three months and to Moran Manor for the love and care she received.
