Obituary for Edith Leona Grapes-Wilson

Cumberland, MD – Edith Leona Grapes-Wilson, 100, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Allegany Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

Born June 29, 1917 in Rawlings, MD, Mrs. Wilson was the daughter of the late George Ervin Shepherd and Hazel Mae (Sharp) Shepherd. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Homer Grapes and Carl A. “Cotton” Wilson; as well as five sisters and eight brothers. 

A former employee of Celanese Fibers Corporation of America and also the Cumberland Undergarment Factory, Edith was a member of Memorial Heights Baptist Church where she was also a former member of the choir. Edith enjoyed camping at Hidden Springs Campground in the summer with her husband, Carl.  She also enjoyed traveling and attending church with all her friends. Edith was also a professional seamstress and enjoyed crocheting, crafting and coloring.

Edith is survived by her daughter: Marlene (Grapes) Bury and husband, Don Bury, Hampstead, MD; her sister;:  Dolores Fletcher, Cumberland, MD;  a best friend and caregiver, Linda Smith and family; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Monday, April 9, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. 

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Denny Michael and Pastor Chan Hubbard officiating. 

Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Memorial Heights Baptist Church, 1419 E Oldtown Road, Cumberland, MD 21502.
