Obituary for Bruce Lee Snyder

Cumberland, MD - Bruce Lee Snyder, 79, of LaVale, MD, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017, at Cumberland Healthcare Center, surrounded by his loving family. 

Born July 16, 1938, in Cumberland, MD, Mr. Snyder was the son of the late Howard Joseph and Anna Lucille (Beal) Snyder. He was also preceded in death by his older brother: Joe Snyder. 

Bruce was previously employed with Allegany Ballistics Laboratory as a Technical Specialist in the testing department where he worked on the development of the Polaris Missile System. In 1968, he began his own home remodeling business that became Snyder's Home Improvement Center located in Sears Town Shopping Center.  Over the years, the business progressed from kitchen and bath installations to selling hardware and paint, unfinished furniture, wallpaper, carpets, CB radios, stereos, and gifts.  Snyder's Gift Shop became THE place to buy gifts and home decor.  Many people remember the unique and creative Christmas trees and ornaments displayed and sold during the holidays.  In 1980, Bruce, Audrey, Larry (Bruce's younger brother) and his wife Linda opened the Western Sizzlin' Steak House.  It was a huge success and won numerous awards from the franchisor.  In 1996, Bruce decided to expand his restaurant business and opened a Kenny Rogers Roasters.  It later became Texas Grill House, which is still in operation today. 

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 59 years: Audrey Ruth (VanNatta) Snyder; and his children: Bruce A. Snyder and wife, Melody, LaVale, MD; Sindy (Snyder) Paris and husband, Rodney, Ellerslie, MD; Rod Snyder and wife, Daphne, LaVale, MD; and Brian Snyder and wife, Jennifer, Finzel, MD. He also leaves behind his brother: Larry Snyder and wife, Linda, Cumberland, MD; and his grandchildren, which he lovingly adored, Garrett Snyder, Brandon Paris, Ethan Snyder, Noah Snyder, Madison Paris, and Emily Snyder. 

Bruce was a member of the LaVale United Methodist Church. He was also a long time member of the Queen City chapter of the Freemasons, Lodge #131. 

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. 

A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, December 7, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Frankie Revell officiating. 

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
